We are all leaders in some capacity, for our children, friends, family and maybe even in our careers.
The question is, what type of leader are we and what impact will we have on those we lead?
Will you be remembered for your great leadership skills or as the horrible person that no one could stand to be around?
As we look back on our lives, we all have memories of people who stood out in our minds. Memories of those who helped carve out who we have become today... Some for very positive reasons and some not so much! They've all have had great impact on us, both positive and negative, and on our personal/professional lives.
Personally, I have intentionally avoided focusing on negative energy/people. I believe you should run as fast as possible from these types of people. If you believe there's a chance that YOU are that negative person... you should really start to rethink your strategy!
Remember that teacher in school who saw you for all of your greatness? Even though no one else even new you existed? They thought you were the most promising student, with the best manners, best personality, a wonderful smile, and you name it! In their eyes, you were just the very best! They identified things within your greatness, that maybe you didn't even know about yourself, or didn't believe about yourself.
This was the moment you were introduced to possibility!
Maybe I am: smart talented likable a great artist pretty handsome
Whichever your maybe was when you were younger, those positive words opened up the possibility of achieving all that you wanted in the future. Your mind had just opened up to endless possibilities and maybe some things you didn't even know you wanted!
These are the types of positive experiences, and these are the leaders who opened up your mind to so much ambition!
Maybe your grades were all A's because you were told how very smart you were and with some hard work and focus on studying you could do and be anything you wanted. Wow, wouldn't that have made you feel good? Every child should hear this and know this about themselves!
Now as an adult, there is no difference! We need to know that someone has faith in us and they are in our corner ready to help, support, and do what they can for our success. Be the positive leader we need when things get tough. Because as we know, they will absolutely get tough from time to time! It is life's glorious challenges, which make our lives interesting and adventurous!
Whether you are a child in 4th grade, that teacher in high school with a class of 30 kids, someone's co-worker, or the director at a big company with 50 direct reports, we all can be that person, that influence, that positive soul that helped another find their greatness!
